Shihan Abrar Chowdhury

Chairman

Shihan Abrar Chowdhury graduated from University of Guelph, with a major in Environmental Engineering and ambition to work and develop everyday life. His final year project was to design a cost effective drinking water supply system for rural communities in Bangladesh using rainwater harvest on rooftops and solar UV radiation as disinfectant. He also completed Masters in Business Administration with a major in Human Resource Management from North South University. He also took part in Leadership Program by the Student Life & Career Services Centre at University of Guelph. He has participated in training program by BELA (Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers’ Association) and in South Asian Regional Workshops on Protecting Forests and Forest Dwellers. He has been involved with research work in Bangladesh Australian Center for Environmental research (BACER-DU) on industrial pollution of Dhaka city and its surrounding areas.

In the professional career, Mr. Chowdhury has worked in HR department of The Dhaka Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd. for over 3 years. There he has been in charge of Performance Appraisal and Performance Evaluation including salary fixation and compensation benefits. He was also involved selection and recruitment process as well as designing promotion and transfer criterion.

Belayet Hossain

Mr. Belayet Hossain was born on 20 June, 1949 at Harual Chari in the district of Chittagong. He has completed graduation from Chittagong Commerce College in 1969. After graduation joined M/S. A Qasem & Co., Chartered Accounts, a renowned audit firm of Bangladesh and completed course in the year 1975 and served as an Audit Manager up to 1978. Then he joined M/S M.M. Ispahani Ltd., a renowned business house in this subcontinent and worked up to February, 1980. Then he left M/S M. M. Ispahani Ltd. and joined Saudi Sac Contracting Company in kingdom of Saudi Arabia as area Chief Accountant. During his job in Saudi Arabia he was assigned to work for famous chain hotel ‘Holiday Inn’ in Jeddah and after completion this project he handled housing project consisting of 2,500 buildings of Jubail Industrial City Eastern Province of Saudi Arab. He backed from Saudi Arabia in 1985 and joined again in M/S M.M. Ispahani Ltd. as a Finance Manager, responsible for all the Tea Gardens and Pahartali Textile Hossiery Mills. Pahartali Textile Hossiery Mills is one of the biggest/oldest Textile Mills in Bangladesh. He left M/S M. M. Ispahani Ltd. in the 2004 and joined The Dhaka Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd. as Vice-Chairman.

S.M. Nasimul Haque

Captain (Retd.) S.M. Nasimul Haque after getting education in public schools in Pakistan joined the Air Force in 1969 for GD pilot training. In 1971 he came home to join the freedom fight. After independence he had joined the Air Force again but left it in 1973. He went off to the USA in 1977 to complete his flying training. Then he joined Biman Bangladesh Airlines as a pilot in 1978. Capt. S.M. Nasimul Haque was a pilot in Biman flying the wide bodied aircraft. After early retirement from Biman, he joined this Bank on the Chairman’s request as a Director. Later on he also took up the responsibility of an advisor. A freedom fighter by choice agreed to join the Chairman who is also a freedom fighter. He joined the Bank around October 2005. He worked with the vision of the Chairman to alleviate poverty though micro credit as a contribution to the society. He has in the process promoted the Bank to his friends and acquaintances to get deposits and also lend out money. He firmly believes that this institution can be a good and workable solution for helping development in this country and alleviate poverty.

Ali Haider Chowdhury

Wing Commander (Retd.) Ali Haider Chowdhury was born in Rajshahi in March 1951. He joined BAF first batch of pilots as flight cadet on 14th December 1972. He was sent to former USSR for flying training for three years. He successfully completed his training from Frunze Military Academy. He was graduated from the academy. There he became an operational pilot, and diploma aeronautical engineer. He learnt Russian language also in the academy. After successful completion of training in USSR he returned home in December 1975. He was commissioned in BAF as a GD (P) officer. He was a versatile military pilot, flew untiringly in plains and hilly trains of mother land. He has a rare experience of flying UN missions abroad. He flew many cross country missions in south and south east zone of Asia. He logged more than 5500 (training, operational, and commercial) hours in his credit. In service, he commanded many training and operational Squadrons and Wings. He was also posted too many very important positions, i.e. PS to Chief Advisor of care taker Govt. (1996) of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. He was posted to very sensitive appointment in a National Intelligence organization for 3 years. He is very kind, cool and analytical in nature. He retired in 1998. After retirement he joined a private commercial aviation organization. Presently he is one of the directors in the Board of Directors of the DMCBL.

ATM Hamidul Hossain

Major (Retd.) ATM Hamidul Hossain, Bir Bikkrom, Psc was born in Bogra. Student of Bogra Zilla School, Dhaka College & a Military graduate of Quetta Staff College, Pakistan. As a student he joined the war of Liberation in 1971. A valiant Freedom Fighter who was awarded the gallantry award Bir Bikkrom in the war of Liberation. After the Liberation war he joined the Bangladesh Army in 1974 & commissioned in The East Bengal Regiment. Served in the Army in various distinguished position like, Instructor in SI&T, Adjutant Jhenidha Cadet College, Brigade Major 101 Brigade & officiating commanding officer of 12 East Bengal. In 1989 he tested the heinous hospitality of the Autocratic Regime of President Earshad & got premature compulsory retirement from the Army. After retirement he joined the Bangladesh Anser & VDP organization as a Director. He left the Anser & VDP organization & joined the reputed Padma Oil Company as the Head of Human Resource. After Serving 15 years in the oil company he retired from the company & eventually joined in this Bank as a Director.

He is a famous writer, columnist & researcher of Liberation War. By now he has written 35 books on War of Liberation & achieved the award as the best writer of Liberation War. He is the father of one Son & one Daughter.

M. Akhtaruzzaman

Wing Commander (Retd.) M. Akhtaruzzaman, GD (P), Psc son of Late Wing Commander (Retd.) Saber Ahmed was born in Sondip, Chittagong in April, 1953. He was joined Bangladesh Air Force on 1973 as GD Pilot. Successfully completed one and half year of training in Indian Air Force and he got commission in Bangladesh Air Force as GD pilot in July, 1975. He was basically a transport pilot and flying instructor. He flew more than four thousand hours in Bangladesh and abroad. He was in Iraq Air Force Academy as Flying Instructor for two years. Other than flying he worked as commander in bases and Air Head Quarter. In 2003, he retired from Air Force.

In July, 2008 he joined in The Dhaka Mercantile Co-Operative Bank Ltd. At present he is working as Advisor Investment & Recovery. Bangladesh is a Micro Investment hungry market. Poor peoples are getting very much help through our Micro Investment officers.
